Multitasking in Gym

Sometimes you see certain things which make you wonder is this really what you see???

I saw one of the bizarre things recently, a person was in the Gym and doing the following at the same time:

1. Elliptical
2. Listening to music
3. Reading a book (yes, this is what surprised me too!!!)

I am very doubtful that this can really be done with efficiency. Are we really that busy and timeless about our exercise schedule that we want to utilize Gym time to read!!!

Above all, is it really safe to do that kind of thing?
